Q and A: Peanut butter safety and Girl Scout Cookies®
Q1: Is it safe to eat the Little Brownie Bakers' Girl Scout Cookies that contain peanut butter?
A: Yes. The peanut butter used in our Tagalongs® and Do-si-dos® is supplied by a different peanut butter company than the one being investigated by the FDA. This week, the FDA confirmed that the sole source of the Salmonella outbreak is Peanut Corporation of America's (PCA) Blakely, Georgia plant that produces peanut butter and peanut paste. Girl Scout cookies produced by Little Brownie Bakers are not made with and/or in anyway connected with peanut butter supplied by PCA. Little Brownie Bakers' peanut butter supplier, Algood Food Company, based in Louisville, KY, has informed us that no product produced in its facility is the subject of the ongoing FDA investigation of the Peanut Corporation of America.
Q2: What does Little Brownie Bakers do to ensure safety of its products?
A: At Little Brownie Bakers, safety always comes first. The company has very high food safety standards, which suppliers are expected to follow as well, as part of its goal to bake safe, high quality, great tasting Girl Scout Cookies. The company's suppliers are subject to rigorous audits from independent third party auditors.
Q3: Why should customers continue to buy Girl Scout Cookies?
A: Girl Scouts sell delicious, wholesome cookies that have been enjoyed by generations. Our cookies, produced by Little Brownie Bakers, are not made with and/or in anyway connected with peanut butter supplied by PCA. Your support of cookie sales supports important troop activities and teaches girls valuable business skills and life skills that will last a lifetime. Thank you!
